Copaleras
/The Censers/
The Copaleras (or censers) create a play between their soft appearance and the heaviness of their function, significance and ambiguous materiality. They suggest the presence of magical events, of an intimate ritual. They show evidence of a ceremony's emotional archeology: the burning of copal (aromatic resin) and fragrant herbs, used to purify the place where the ritual takes place, as well as its participants.
